You now have an agent. What’s next?
Now it’s time to submit to publishers. So you’re back to making submissions, which makes you do a Conan:
Then the editors start saying no . . .
And nope . . .
And your inbox starts spewing out no’s.
All the rejections drive you to tears.
And dark emotions . . .
And paper-ripping frustration . . .
And then your agent calls, and you want to be cool and aloof.
But instead you’re huffing into a paper bag.
Your agent tells you a publisher made an offer! And you feel like a winner!
And the luckiest person on earth . . .
And the winner of the merry-go-round lottery!
And that makes you feel like the boogie woogie bugle boy of company B!
So you go celebrate with your friends as the toast of the town.
And during the car ride home you’re still high on life!
The next day, alas, it’s time for revisions. And you pretend you know what you’re doing.
And it’s back to tap, tap, tap until the revisions are all done!
But then you’re done! You’re really done!
Only your book doesn’t come out for another year. So . . .
